Understanding Florida Condo Insurance Discounts and Discounts

Before the 2001 Florida Building Code, not all buildings and structures were the same or at least the same.
Florida is a state of catastrophic hurricanes that are seldom visited. The most valuable aspect of property insurance in Florida is hurricane coverage. This coverage will probably cover the highest cost of insurance.
To reduce insurance premiums, buildings have been built or redesigned to withstand wind huts at speeds of up to 300mph.


If your property can withstand hurricane-force winds, insurance costs can be reduced by as much as 70%.
Individuals should hire inspection companies or professionals at their own expense to complete the required form through the insurance carrier to verify these structural features. It is recommended 80% of the time for inspection as there may be unnoticed features that can reduce the premium.

If a condominium building has a cement-reinforced roof that most tall buildings do, the discount can significantly amount. Or a cement reinforced roof structure. Strengthening the roof structure is an important key exception. Not so much what kind of tiles are laid on the roof.


Then there is the fact that the roof structure is attached to the building itself. Discounts apply when roof decks with large nails and close spacing are used. It can be secured with clips or straps. They can look like metal lines that are nailed to the beams attached to the rest of the building from under the roof, and the roof structure is attached to the walls.


This is known as the second water resistance, removing or blowing roof tiles by strong storm winds.
The shape of the roof is also an important part. Changes in the building code in Florida to comply with hurricanes may increase the likelihood of roof-to-roof discounts on structures built before 2001. The most common types are flat, gable, and HIP. These shapes are displayed in pictures on our Florida Home Insurance page. The HIP format is the most beneficial for insurance discounts. The HIP shape is described as a roof that extends from all four sides to the chambers. This allows strong winds to bend or collide with one side of the structure outside the building.


Another important exception is the hole in the building. These are all windows and doors. It can usually refer to hurricane shutters and can also be applied to windows and doors affected by a new hurricane. Please note that this discount will not apply if you do not have shutters on every window and door in your home. This is a discount for all or none at all.
New homes built after 2002 are automatically exempt from hurricanes because they comply with new Florida building codes.


Of course, other discounts can reduce insurance premiums, such as indoor sprinklers, central monitoring fires, and burglar alarms. Still, these are not a factor when reducing the insurance part of the wind. You can also choose to inspect hurricane shutters without hurricane characteristics. This will reduce the cost of your inspection.
Remember that the cost of an inspection can be a significant investment in considering insurance premium savings in the first year of an insurance policy or the next few years. Always inspect the inspecting company or person you hire is Florida licensed, and the insurance company will accept. Always get a receipt and negotiate or confirm the cost of inspection before charging for compensation.
